Morocco

The place where the sun sets; the west and the north.

The north of Africa

Probably like a lot of european people, Morocco was the first african country that I visited. We flew to Morocco, because a friend of mine got maried there. So the occasion was too good to not take a few more days in order to visit the country. Let’s see what it has to offer. A lot of sun, a lot of colours and some good food for sure !

Essaouira

The blue city.

The city of Essaouira is located just next to the ocean. It is a harbor city, with one of the most famous port in the area. The wedding actually took place a few kilometers away from Essaouira. A lot of friends were also invited, so we had the opportunity to meet each other in town to visit the old city.

We arrived in the city by the place Moulay el Hassan. On your right you find the souk and on your left you will see the port. The smell of fishes is quite distrubing at first, but after a while you start to get used to it.

The streets of Essaouira

Once you enter in the heart of the city, it seems that the market is trying to eat you. The streets are sometimes very narrow. The numerous shops, all the different flavours and the constant flow of people walking around tend to be very surprising. You can think you are lost, but it is not, because it is easy to find your way back. Actually it is a very good moment to let you randomly discover the city.

Did you know that a lot of films where shot in Essaouira ? Take a look here https://www.imdb.com/search/title/?locations=Essaouira,%20Morocco

Blue

Impossible to visit Essaouira without noticing the omnipresence of the blue color.

Even if Pantone defined the color of the year to be Classic blue, here in the streets, you see a clearer blue. More something like an Aquarius blue. One advice ? Wear your sun glasses ! The sun is strong during the day. Everything is bright and shining.

Marrakech - The capital

Marrakech introduction with ZHU

Second step of our travel, Marrakech. We arrived and had left the country in Morroco by the airport of Marrakech. That is why we decided to stay here for a day or two. Taking the time to rest and chill and bit longer.

At the beginning of this article I presented you a song from ZHU. Gues what ? Here is a second song from him, matching perfetcly with this city !

Places that we visited

We had a quick tour in the city, but still we visited some of the best places of Marrakech.

First, we went to the Majorelle Garden. It is a piece of haven situated a bit on the north of the medina. There you can discover a garden with hundreds of huge cactuses and many other variety of plants. In its center, you will see a blue villa, labelised the “Maisons des Illustres“.

The thinker of the souk
This image has been taken in the souk of Marrakech completely by chance. I was walking with my camera hanging to my hand, not ready at all. While suddently I saw this man, I just pressed the trigger without any framing, my camera still hanging down.
Such a surprise that this photo worked so well !

South of the medina

The last area of our visit in Marrakech was the south of the medina.

There you can visit the Saadian tombs, where the old dynasty of the same name. This place has been re-discovered in 1917, because it has been kept secret by sealing the entry of the monument.

After the tombs, we had a tour in the jewish district and next to the royal palace.

With the following photos it is funny to see that there is a dominant colour in
