In street photography, playing with the environment is essential. You can frame your picture with the geometry offered by the buildings and the road. It is not always that easy. There may be a car, a road sign or anything else disturbing the picture you see with your eyes. However if you pay enough attention to details, you could be able to come up with something very interesting like these two pictures.
This is why I like so much street photography. It is hard, but when the result is here, it is a real pleasure to look at what you took.
If you are looking for a very good video explaining the composition, you can check this one ! I like a lot Jamie Windsor, he is always giving you a lot of tips and he is explaining it very clearly.
The original photo
So here is the original photo. I took this picture at the end of a photo trip in Paris. I was actually walking back to the “Gare de l’est” station, when I came across this big mirror on the pavement. Impossible to stay here too long, because I was late and I had to rush to the station… However I tried one or two shots. And I got this image. Interesting, but not enough.
The good thing is that the mirror plays a great role in the composition. So I think it is important to keep a wide composition. That way we understand better the scene. But still, it needs an improvement or two.
The result after post edition
First try, I was not satisfied with the green color. So I gave a yellow tone here and there. Mhhhh ok but maybe not the best edition.
Then I though, ok why not turning it in black and white. With some vignetage to increase the dramatic side of the picture.
And here the result is way better. I like this a lot.
After what I saw that the big glass behind the mirror was very interesting. It is giving another reflection, completely different frmo the mirror. We don’t see it enough with the previous black and white photo. So I restored the colors, keeping the green and giving more depth to the blue pavement and the sky. Here it is ! my favorite one.
